April 19, 2016 | 12 p.m.

HOUSTON, TX — Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team is responding to significant flooding in Houston following extreme rainfall. Five people are dead while hundreds of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes. A county official estimates that 240 billion gallons of rain have fallen in the area, leaving thousands of homes inundated with water and tens of thousands without power. More rain is expected later today and this week.

Convoy of Hope has a truckload of supplies en route to the affected areas to assist residents. We will work in tandem with local partners to distribute emergency relief supplies. In the coming days — when the water recedes — our teams will work with local volunteers to begin debris removal and cleanup projects.
